Thank you cake

July 20, 2008

My Dad asked me to make a thank-you cake, so I conjured up this chocolate cake. The cake is iced in chocolate ganache, with a white chocolate wall, and fondant flowers. 🙂 Apologies for the extremely poor photograph!

  1. Good – I wanted to see this cake but your father said I could see it on your blog! Looks good enough to eat.

  2. Well, I rather hope it was!

  3. Hi! Just realised I haven’t seen you online in forever. How’s things? You should check out the cake I made for Jason’s birthday on my blog 😉

  5. hey there.
    nice cake!
just wondering what you used to wirte thank you on the cake, and how you did it.
making a cake sometime soon, and need a few pionters on the writing and a chocolate wall.

  6. Hi Malachai!

I used royal icing in a piping bag with a small round tip to do the writing – I find this easiest but you can get pre-made icing in tubes to write with, which is definitely less fussy!

The chocolate wall is made by cutting a sheet of acetate to the size to wrap around the cake, then spreading melted chocolate on it. Wait until the chocolate is thickening but not hard, wrap it around the cake, secure with a piece of tape and leave until hard, then carefully peel away the acetate.

    Hope this helps!
