Baked Alaska

Okay, so not really a cake, and not very pretty, and foolish me, I forgot to take a picture of it when it was cut… But it still looked kinda cool. In case you’re not familiar, this is basically ice-cream, sponge and meringue… But you bake the whole lot! It’s sometimes called Bombe Alaska, but that recipe usually involves dousing the baked dessert in brandy and lighting it, and while that sounds cool I didn’t have brandy (and don’t really like the flavour anyway, even if it’s only a hint).

This one is Cadbury Caramello ice-cream, and chocolate swiss log for the sponge layer. I was trying for a lighter flavour of ice-cream (maybe a fruit flavour or something) but there were no decent ones, except in the teeny super-expensive cartons, and I figured the boys didn’t care enough, Caramello is tasty, and I will soon be poor so should conserve funds (at least a little!).
