The last of the Christmas cakes

December 28, 2007

This cake was for Boxing Day, the last of the Christmas batch for me. It was my second attempt at this smooth chocolate wall effect, and I don’t think I’m doing too badly… I got a bit of a bad angle with the camera – that accounts for the weird looking bit at the front. It wasn’t as glossy as I’d have liked, but I think that’s down to the chocolate not being quite set enough when I removed the acetate – apparently setting things in the fridge gives a good gloss, but we didn’t have room for this large cake in ours when I was decorating it! Also, the chocolate curls (which are still difficult to make, with the weather) are all dark chocolate – but some are made with Cadbury 42% compound chocolate, and some with Signature Range (random in-house NZ brand) 70% compound chocolate – you can really see (and taste) the difference.
